Botanical Art Pen & Ink Light Theory

After spending fifteen years documenting rare plant species across Southeast Asia, Miriam founded dronavalexith in early 2023 with a vision that surprised even herself. Her background in scientific illustration taught her something unexpected about teaching—precision comes from understanding, not just technique. She's developed what students call her "backwards method," where complex drawings begin with the most challenging elements first. Miriam's work has appeared in three botanical journals, but she's more proud of watching students discover their own artistic voice through structured exploration.

Rosa Martinez, Senior Drawing Instructor specializing in portrait and figure work

Portrait Work Charcoal Figure Study

Rosa's journey into teaching started accidentally during a community art fair in 2021. A curious eight-year-old kept asking questions about her portrait demonstration, and Rosa found herself explaining proportion theory in ways she'd never considered before. That conversation changed everything. She joined dronavalexith in mid-2024, bringing with her an unconventional approach that treats every drawing session like a conversation between artist and subject. Rosa believes the secret to capturing likeness lies not in perfect measurements, but in understanding the story a face wants to tell.

Our Philosophy: Individual Growth Through Shared Discovery

We've learned something important over the past couple of years—every artist's journey is completely unique, yet somehow we all wrestle with similar questions. How do you capture what you see? How do you translate intention into mark-making? How do you push past that frustrating gap between vision and execution?

E

Experiential Learning

Theory matters, but your hands need to understand before your mind can fully grasp the concepts. We structure learning around direct experience with materials and techniques.

C

Creative Problem-Solving

Every drawing presents unique challenges. Rather than providing formulaic solutions, we help you develop your own approach to visual problem-solving.

P

Personal Expression

Technical skill serves artistic vision, not the other way around. We focus on helping you discover and develop your unique visual voice.
